Wall - Tips and Tricks

Wall Overview
Your wall allows you to change how many heros and troops defend your base. You can change these configurations by tapping on the wall, from your base, and then selecting which squads defend the wall. When a squad, or squads, defends your base, they bring soldiers to the battle. If they lose {or even when they win), these soldiers can be injured and\or die. Such is life...

If a more powerful enemy attacks you, that enemy can very quickly injury and kill many of your troops in large numbers, if you have heros defending your wall. The injured troops will be sent to the hospital and await healing until the hospital overflows, at which point the overflow troops will be start to automatically die.

If you have no heros defending your wall, even much weaker attackers will win every battle when attacking your base. They will kill 400-500 troops every time they attack you. No troops will go to the hospital, they will simply die.

There is a time and place to have heroes manning the wall, such as when you want to defend against weaker opponents. There is never a time to have no heros on your wall! Why, you ask? If you have have a squad consisting of your single weakest hero, it is optimal to having no heros in the wall. This is because in a defeat against an attacker, 1 weak (low command) hero will lose less troops than an empty wall. An estimated 200-300 troops will be lost. Additionally, some of these troops will go to the hospital instead of being automatically killed. Amazed? You should be because it is counter intuitive, but it is true nonetheless.

Thought Experiment
Let's have a thought experiment and assume that a far superior attacker will perform 8 consecutive attacks against your base. They will win every attack. For the purposes of this experiment, we will assume that your squads have 2000, 1700, 1400, and 1100 troops.

4 squads on wall - Up to 49,000 troops could potentially be injured and\or killed. Some troops will survive in the hospital.

1 main squad on wall - Up to 16,000 troops could potentially be injured and\or killed. Some troops will survive in the hospital.

0 squads on wall - Between 3000-4000 will be automatically killed.

1 hero on wall - Up to 2400 troops could potentially be injured and\or killed. Some troops will survive in the hospital.

Summary
Obviously, these numbers will vary in a real world scenario, and a number of variables can change these numbers rather dramatically. Still, this experiment doea provide a decent illustration for why there is never a reason to have zero heroes manning the wall.

I encourage you to test for yourself!
